Our Academics & Electives
-
We draw upon the expertise of our educators and work together to create models of outstanding achievement in every classroom. By implementing high-quality instructional materials and transforming the academic culture in our schools, we challenge and inspire our students to thrive in the world. With a wide variety of academic and enrichment opportunities aligned with state standards, we support students in unlocking their potential as they extend their skills and talents beyond the classroom. Our core curriculum includes:
English Language Arts - We are committed to nurturing and developing a strong literacy foundation for all students in the early school years by implementing literacy instructional frameworks that prepare students to become independent readers and writers.
Math - The mathematics curriculum seeks to ensure mathematical competence and confidence in students in mathematics-rich classroom environments.
Science - Classroom experiences in science are connected to real-world phenomena and provide opportunities to engage in science and engineering practices through exposure to STEM-related career pathways.
Social Studies - Students gain the content knowledge, intellectual skills, and core democratic values necessary for fulfilling their civic duties in a participatory democracy and effectively engaging in our global society.

Elective courses give students the chance to take classes outside of a prescribed plan of coursework. This lets students pursue other interests they may have, giving them a more "well-rounded" education. These electives also let students find subjects that might interest them and change the direction they wish to take with their education. These are the electives offered at Fisher Magnet Upper:
Art/Advanced Art - Over the last 8 years in the Fisher Fine Art class studio our course of study will/and has focused upon problem-solving, using the elements and principles of design in order to create expressive, well-organized works of art. We will also focus heavily on basic drawing skill, color theory, composition and community art projects. Students will be exposed to a variety of both two and three-dimensional materials and mediums, and will also have opportunities to write about and discuss their own works, and the works of others.
Objectives

- Students will identify major artists and styles.
- Students will begin to analyze their own artwork, other student’s work and the work of well-known artists through critiques and in-class writing.
