Bates Academy Offers the following programs:
- Robotics is an after-school club that is an introduction to Lego Robotics. Club members will be using their creative and technical skills to build Lego machines and use computer software to program their machines. This is a cooperative club where competition between members should be kept fun. Teamwork is essential and sharing your knowledge is encouraged.
- Academic Games is a series of games designed to excite and measure student knowledge in a variety of themes. Students develop proficiency and self-confidence by competing in games of Math, English, Social Studies, and Logic. By competing against each other, students are encouraged and motivated to sharpen their skills to gain a competitive edge over their peers. Academic Games is not only exciting but makes learning fun for students! If you are interested in starting an Academic Games team at your school, please contact your school’s administrator.
- Chess: Detroit Public Schools Community District is proud to sponsor the Metro Detroit Scholastic Chess League (City League) which features Elementary, Middle and High School teams from the Detroit area. Teams compete to see who the top chess teams in the city.
- The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These five pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1929. Learn more about these five pillars of membership here.
