• 2023-2024 Uniform Policy/Dress Code

Uniforms are welcome but not mandatory at Maybury. If you choose to have your child wear a uniform, students may wear a blue or white top and Khaki or black pants. Although students will not be required to wear a uniform, we firmly believe in a dress code. We still want to draw up standards of dress and appearance that are fair and will reflect favorably on our school, our students, and our community. We also want to teach children how to make choices in reasonable dress. We ask every Maybury parent to enforce our standards of dress below:

    1. All clothing must be neat in appearance with no rips, frays, or tears.

    1. Pants must be secured at the student’s waistline.

    1. For safety and health reasons, shoes and socks must be always worn and be securely fastened.

    1. No slides, flip flops, shoes without backs, or shoes with wheels allowed. Crocks are also not school appropriate and are not allowed.

    1. Pajamas, house shoes, or other nightwear may not be worn to school.

    1. No students may wear hats, headbands, sweatbands, or bandannas.

    1. No students will be allowed to wear clothing or jewelry which displays suggestive slang or advertising (alcohol, drugs), or inappropriate language.

    1. Students will not be allowed to wear clothing that has graffiti of any kind on it. This includes print of any type across the back of pants.

    1. Students will be allowed to wear shorts of modest length and appropriate material. Shorts should be no shorter than two inches from the top of the knee. Silky or mesh athletic shorts, biking shorts, swim or board shorts, cut-offs, or other inappropriate shorts will not be allowed.

    1. Dresses and skirts should be of modest length (no shorter than two inches from the top of the knee) as determined by school officials. Jackets must be worn over sundresses. Straps on dresses/tops should be no thinner than two inches. Off-the-shoulder tops or dresses are not allowed.

    1. Properly fitted sweat suits will be allowed.

    1. Leggings, close fitting knit pants, can only be worn with tops which meet the three inches dress rule.

    1. No students will be allowed to wear tank tops, halter tops, tube tops, or midriffs. Students may not wear transparent tops without adequate undergarments. No tops cut low in the front, back or side will be allowed. There should be no skin showing between the bottom of the blouse and the top of pants or skirt when arms are extended above the head.

    1. Although sweaters are allowed in class, no hoodies may be worn inside of the classroom.

All students are expected to comply with the dress code. Students who do not meet the dress code will first receive a written notice to go home to their parents. The parents will also be called to bring appropriate clothes to school for their child if the dress code violation continues after written notice. For compelling reasons, such as medical requirements, the principal and Assistant Principal, may at their discretion, review an individual situation to determine whether a modification of a provision is required for the health and safety of a particular student or for certain groups during performances or special activities.
