Wakeita Winston is a native Detroiter. She is a proud product of Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Mackenzie High School. She received her B.A. in Elementary Education from Michigan State University and her M.A. from Wayne State University in Educational Leadership. For the last 24 years, she has worked as an educator within Detroit Public Schools Community District. She worked in her current building for 22 years, Butzel and Garvey, and has had the pleasure of teaching two generations of families. For the last 5 years, she has been an administrator and Assistant Principal at Marcus Garvey African-Centered Academy. Her vision is to provide a nurturing and safe learning environment that is the hub of the community where all students receive high-quality education and to create partnerships with parents and community stakeholders.
