Mr. Myron Montgomery

Mr. Myron Montgomery is a native Detroiter and a product of the Detroit Public School system. Mr. Montgomery graduated from Northern High School and attended Eastern Michigan University for undergraduate studies. He earned a Bachelor of Science in HistoryHe earned his master’s in educational leadership from Marygrove College. Dedicated to the Detroit Public School system, he taught DPSCD students for 15 years before transitioning to administration. This school year marks his 24th year of continuous service to the students and families of the DPSCD community! Currently, an Assistant Principal, proudly serving the students of East English Village Preparatory Academy.  His wife is also a product of the Detroit Public School system and is also an educator within the Detroit Public Schools Community District.

My vision begins with quality instruction; he plans to continue to work in tandem with teachers as they implement high-quality curriculumThis means that both teachers and administration have a responsibility to ensure that data-driven instruction is of the highest quality, as evidenced by increased academic achievement results. He is a staunch proponent of student-centered education, and he believes that students should have some autonomy in how they are educated. High-quality instruction and learning are tantamount to preparing students for continuing education opportunities, but a complete education also addresses the social needs of students. He has developed a working knowledge of the interests and learning styles of our students, the challenges associated with the instructional pedagogy of our teachers, the consternations and concerns of our parents, and the expectations of job-readiness skills valued by the business community.  The convergence of these various perspectives has coalesced to inform my educational philosophy:

My educational philosophy is that students benefit from experiences which expand their thinking, exposing them to realities that are not always apparent within their immediate surroundings. This certainly entails strengthening existing relationships with community partners, but also initiating new conversations with strategic interests which potentially lead to even greater opportunities for students to gain internships, participate in job-shadowing opportunities, and expand after-school offerings like interest clubs and athletics. All students deserve quality educators who are dedicated to developing their talents, interests, and dreams. He believes that all students can learn and that every student has a right to a quality education!
