Principal Welcome

Summer has come and gone and now it is time to continue with the excellent traditions of Edward “Duke” Ellington Conservatory of Music and Art & Beckham.  I anticipate an exciting year as we collectively strive to foster a culture of learning.  I feel extremely fortunate to be working with such an exceptional group of students, families, and staff members.  I want to officially welcome all of you to the 2021-2022 School Year!

This is my first year as principal of Edward “Duke” Ellington Conservatory of Music and Art & Beckham.  I am thrilled at the opportunity to get to know all of you and engage in the educational process together.  I will begin the process by letting you all know a little about me.  I am a lifelong educator who brings a firm commitment to students and families as well as a love of learning.  I have taught at the elementary levels, served as an ELA literacy coach as well as a PreK-8 Assistant Principal in Detroit Public Schools Community District.  I look forward to building lasting relationships with each member of the Edward “Duke” Ellington community.  Please introduce yourself in the days and weeks ahead.

The elementary school years are critical times of development for students and families alike, and I look forward to working with all of you to make this year successful.  My greatest desire is to provide the type of leadership that will continue to facilitate a school environment that will provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each student to the best of our ability.  The educational program must be academically challenging.  It must engage each student by linking the curriculum to previous knowledge and experience.  It should also be exciting to promote further exploration of new ideas.  It is my expectation that every adult in the building model has acceptance, openness, and willingness to adapt to the changes we face on a daily basis in a fashion that epitomizes the ultimate customer service experience.  Parents, teachers, support staff, and administration all have an important role to encourage our children to become active learners.

Through a close and collegial partnership with everyone associated with Edward “Duke” Ellington Conservatory of Music and Art & Beckham, I am confident we can make our school an even better place for our students to learn and grow.

I welcome everyone to a new year of learning, growing, and achieving as we continue to “Build Leaders of Today”.  Should you have any comments, questions or concerns, please know I am available to have that dialogue with you.  Again, I'm privileged and honored to have this opportunity to serve you as The New Principal of Edward “Duke” Ellington Conservatory of Music and Art & Beckham.

    With Gratitude,

    Kimberly Pierce
