Art provides an outlet for self-expression and an opportunity to do so without words, from the teaching of techniques and skills in various media to the teaching of art history and art appreciation,
-
Drama
Students in theatre can perform in a variety of school plays, attend local plays in the city, and also become members of the Michigan Thespian Society. We serve students in grades K - 8
-
Dance
Here at Duke Ellington's Dance Conservatory, students from K-8th grade get an opportunity to learn a variety of Multicultural Dances from around the world; from "Funga Alafia", an African/ Nigerian welcome song, to Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" and just this week "Merengue" the Dominican Republic's national dance that is done in pairs. I believe the more our children learn about cultures different than their own, the more peaceful our world will be!!
-

Instrumental students can perform in marching bands, orchestra, jazz, and string combos. Students also have opportunities and experiences to perform with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
-
Vocal Arts
