Athletics
Detroit Public Schools Community District Athletic Department believes that athletics is a part of the whole education process. The expectations in the classroom will be exemplified on the field of play. In addition to supporting academic goals, our coaching staff will work hard to build character and model good citizenship. We believe that our student-athletes have the unique ability show our values to opposing schools, our fans, and anyone attending each event. No matter the result, we will work hard and compete at a high level. Our teachers, coaches, and student-athletes are ready to make a school and community proud. There are certain ingredients that lead to success. other aspects of their lives.
Vision
Our Vision is that every K-8 student participate in healthy athletic environments that supports academic progress, promotes their physical wellbeing, psychological and social growth.
Goals
- Every K-8 DPSCD student shall have access to multiple sports activities each year
- To differentiate DPSCD by providing cost effective, highly competitive and socially enriching sport programs that attracts new students, their families and spectators
- Maintain family friendly safe and secure sports environments
- Establish socially responsible partnerships that enhance the quality of our program offering
Specialized Programs
Depending on whether you're looking for a program that stimulates your child physically, intellectually or creatively in nature there are programs that can build skills in developmental areas. Research has shown that many programs can:
- Offer students the opportunity to develop closer friends than they might make in school, due to shared interests
- Build teamwork and problem solving skills
- Help students develop emotional regulation that carries over to their classroom
- Encourages superior academic performance

Come and join the Falcon's Co-ed Basketball team.
Where: Gym
When: Fisher's gym from 3 to 4 on Thursdays.

Specialized Programs

Coding
Coding is where students will learn to write a set of instructions that a computer understands to perform a task. Students will be empowered by joining this class.

Drama
Join our new drama club. Any students interesed in learning about the aspects of theater please inquire. Students will learn terminology, acting skills, set building, and customes/makeup design.

Gardening
Come and join our gardening class to learn about nutrition education, understand the process of growing healthy food and recognize environment stewardship.

Girl Scouts
Join Girl Scouts! Girl Scouts isn’t just a moment in her life, it’s a movement dedicated to building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts is a way of life that brings out the best in your girl, even in the most challenging of times. While she’s learning about STEM, the outdoors, entrepreneurship, and important life skills, she’s discovering new ways to make your family and community stronger, kinder, and better for everyone.

Safety Patrol
Safety patrol is headed by Mr. Perdue, safety patrol advisor. The students are selected from 4th grade based on grades and behavior. Members of the Safety Patrol must remain in good academic standing in all subject areas and model good behavioral choices. Discipline referrals will result in dismissal from safety patrol.
Duties include:
- Hallway monitoring
- Assisting students
- Helping students get to class or designated areas without running
Duties begin promptly at 7:10 a.m. and end at 7:40 a.m. daily.

Tutoring
If your child need helps academically check out our after school tutoring program. Our program will help any student to learn, make learning enjoyable and boost his or her confidence in the classroom.

Arts and Crafts
Students will learn how to various things using construction paper and painting various things. This class is held every Friday from 12:52 to 1:44 under the guidance of Ms. Murphy.

Chess
Students will learn how to play chess, led by Mr. Permut every Friday from 12:52 to 1:44.

Choir
Students will learn the meaning of teamwork, concentration, focus, discipline and active listening. This class is under the guidance of Ms. Shumpert every Friday from 12:52 to 1:44.

Drama/theatre
Every Friday students will learn the fundamentals of acting and being on stage from 12:52 to 1:44.

Jewelry Making Class
Students will learn to make different pieces of jewelry led by Ms. McCants from 12:52 to 1:44 every Friday.

Math Games
Math games will under the guidance of Ms.Lothery every Friday from 12:52 to 1:44.

Online games
Online games are held in the computer lab from 12:50 to 1:44 every Friday, led by Ms. Shumpert.

Photography
Photograpy class is held every Friday with Ms. Smith from 12:52 to 1:44. Students will learn to operate a camera and how to take beautiful pictures.

Readers Theatre
Students will learn how take simple literature and put it into a dramatic form. This class will be led by Ms. C. Smith every Friday from 12:52 to 1:44.

Robotics
The robotics class will be led by Ms. Fatty every Friday from 12:52 to 1:44.

Sunday Soul Food
Sunday Soul Food class will consist of cooking some flavorful foods led by Mr. Thomas every Friday from 12:52 to 1:44.

A movie class is held each Friday from 12:52 to 1:44. Students will learn to critique different characters.
