Inspired by the Ron Clark Model
Garvey School is excited to roll out a brand-new, all-school Dojo point system modeled after the renowned Ron Clark Academy House System. The initiative aims to foster community, leadership, and academic excellence by uniting students and staff into "houses," each named after one of the Seven Principles of Nguzo Saba — the core values of unity, self-determination, and collective responsibility that are celebrated during Kwanzaa.
The eight houses are:
- Umoja (Yellow House) – House of Unity: Promoting togetherness in the school and community.
-
Kujichagulia (Green House) – House of Courage: Encouraging students to define themselves and take ownership of their learning.
-
Ujima (Red House) – House of Friendship: Emphasizing teamwork and problem-solving.
-
Ujamaa (Teal House) – House of Success: Supporting students with collaboration and mutual success.
-
Nia (Black House) – House of Givers: Instilling a sense of purpose and goal-setting.
-
Kuumba (Blue House) – House of Dreamers: Inspiring students to make a difference in the world through creativity and innovation.
-
Imani (Purple House) – House of Kindness: Building trust and confidence in one another and the community.
-
Nguzo Saba (Orange House)- House of Nguzo Saba: The house of Garveyites.
Students will earn Dojo points for positive behavior, academic achievements, and leadership efforts. These points contribute to their house’s total score, with regular celebrations recognizing the top-performing houses.
“This system encourages accountability, teamwork, and pride in our community,” said Principal Winston. “By integrating Nguzo Saba, we’re aligning our school culture with values that uplift and empower.”
The Garvey House System aims to create a strong, supportive environment where every student feels a sense of belonging and responsibility. Through friendly competition, engaging challenges, and a focus on cultural values, Garvey is committed to helping students grow into confident, capable leaders.
