The Civil Rights Movement brought about many changes in the lives of African Americans. Among these changes was an increased pride in black identity, which was expressed in many ways, one of which was an appreciation of African heritage. At Marcus Garvey Academy, we believe students must first take pride in themselves and their African heritage in order to become a better student. Therefore, on Mondays, we wear African garb.
