Tobias Harris and "The Power of She": Honoring Mothers at East English Village Preparatory Academy

Detroit Pistons star Tobias Harris teamed up with East English Village Preparatory Academy at Finney to celebrate Women's History Month in a special way. As part of the "Power of She" Essay Contest, students were invited to write about why their mothers are important and why they deserved a night out with a Detroit Pistons player.
The contest was a tremendous success, with over 30 students submitting heartfelt essays. Ultimately, 23 winners were selected, each receiving a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend a Pistons game with their mother.
On Tuesday, March 11, the 23 students and their mothers were picked up from East English Village at 4:00 PM and taken to Little Caesars Arena for an unforgettable experience. Upon arrival, the mothers participated in an exclusive photo shoot with Tobias Harris between 5:15 and 5:30 PM. During the second quarter of the Pistons’ matchup against the Washington Wizards, the students and their moms received a special live feature on the Jumbotron, drawing cheers from the crowd.
As the night continued, the mothers were surprised with a special Women’s Month gift basket in the fourth quarter. These baskets included gift cards, spa vouchers, grocery store gift cards, Starbucks cards, movie tickets, and more, all designed to show appreciation for their dedication and hard work.
This incredible event would not have been possible without the generosity of Tobias Harris and the Detroit Pistons. We extend our heartfelt thanks to him for recognizing the importance of celebrating mothers and to our parents for everything they do to support East English Village Preparatory Academy at Finney.

This night was a true testament to the "Power of She"—honoring, uplifting, and celebrating the incredible women who shape our students' lives every day.
