Davison Dragons Qualify for the Super National Chess Championship

Davison Elementary's chess team rounds out the list of qualifying elementary teams for the Super Nationals. The team has demonstrated impressive skill and determination, earning their place through hard-fought matches and unwavering commitment. The players have shown a deep understanding of chess strategies and a passion for the game, making them a strong contender in the championship.

Coach Lionel Scott explains “As first-year head coach of the Davison Chess Team, I offer congratulations to the players and parents of the team. This is one of the most persistent teams I've coached in 20 years. Ten players quit during the season. Each week of the season I had to replace at least one board with a reserve player. Yet they found a way to win. I am extremely proud of our players. Go, Davison!”

LaShawn Sims, Senior Director of STEM-Enrichment and Computer Science says, “I couldn’t be prouder of our nine incredible chess teams for qualifying for the Super National Chess Championship in Orlando, Florida. Their hard work, dedication, and strategic thinking have paid off in such a remarkable way. This achievement is a testament to the power of teamwork and perseverance, and I’m excited to see them compete on this national stage, showcasing their brilliance and love for the game.”
