313 Detroit

Burton celebrated Detroit’s 313 Day in a fun and interactive way, allowing students to express their creativity by designing their own t-shirts. The children enjoyed a hands-on experience, using colorful paints and markers to personalize their shirts, creating a unique piece of art to take home. This event gave students a chance to showcase their individual styles while also learning about the importance of community and pride in their city.

In addition to the t-shirt activity, the Detroit Police Department made a special visit, bringing along their horses for the students to see and interact with. The horses were a big hit, sparking excitement and curiosity among the children as they learned about the animals' role in community safety. The event also offered a special treat for parents and 8th-grade students, who participated in a hustle dance lesson led by a professional instructor. It was a day full of creativity, education, and community spirit, leaving everyone involved with lasting memories of a great celebration.

Special shoutout to the 5th grade volunteers who assisted our Kindergarten through 2nd grade scholars, the student members from our School Advisory Council for coordinating 313 day, and the kitchen staff for providing chili dogs and chili cheese fries for lunch.
