Western Baseball team wins 15th straight City Championship at Comerica Park!
On May 18th, the Western Cowboys meet the Cass Technicians in the Blue Division City Championship at beautiful Comerica Park. The Western Cowboys have won the previous 14 PSL Baseball Championships.
In this game, the championship pedigrees of the Cowboys shined through as they dominated from the first inning to the last. Pitching for Cass was senior Kevin Padilla-Martinez, who had been very consistent all season. Taking the mound for Western was senior Calbin Gonzalez, who pitched seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts in a masterful outing — only giving up five hits.
In the first inning, the Cowboys jumped out to a 2-0 lead with their lead off hitter Juan Contreras stealing home, and after a throwing error, Julian Djurasaj scored.
The scoring opened back up for the Cowboys with a sacrifice fly RBI by Walter Fahoome. With two outs, the scoring continued as Julian Contreras got an RBI single, making it 4-0. Following Contreras was Rafael Valdovinas who got an RBI double, making it 5-0. They continued to pour it in the fourth inning as Djurasaj claimed a two-RBI single, making it 7-0.
The Technicians were unable to respond with scores of their own due to the dominance of Calbin Gonzalez. Jordan Cruz added another late RBI, and Western secured their astounding 15th straight Baseball City Championship, winning 8-0.
