Robotics Team Makes a Splash at First Lego Challenge!

The Wayne Challengers Robotics Team dove into their first-ever robotics competition with creativity, teamwork, and innovation—and made waves by securing second place in Robot Design! Under the dedicated coaching of Ms. Duffie, the team showcased their skills at the First Lego Challenge, where this year's theme, "Submerge," explored the mysteries of the underwater world.

The team, consisting of nine fourth- and fifth-grade students, divided their roles to maximize their strengths. The fifth-grade boys served as the programming team, coding their robot to complete various ocean-themed missions. Meanwhile, the fourth graders formed a research team, focusing on the coral reef and gathering valuable insights to inform their strategies.

The Wayne Challengers programmed their robot to take on five challenging missions, starting with tasks on the red side of the board. These included releasing a shark into the ocean, activating a coral tree, and restoring the coral reef. The ultimate challenge was navigating to the blue side of the board, where the robot needed to collect an unknown sea creature and retrieve a sample—an ambitious test of their coding and precision skills.

The competition was fierce, with teams competing in four rounds throughout the day from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The best scores from each team determined the winners. Despite this being their first experience in a robotics competition, the Wayne Challengers demonstrated exceptional creativity and technical prowess, earning them second place in the Robot Design category.

Ms. Duffie shared her pride in the team's accomplishments: "This was an incredible achievement for the Wayne Challengers, especially as first-time competitors. Their hard work and teamwork truly paid off."

Congratulations to the Wayne Challengers Robotics Team for their outstanding performance and for representing Wayne Elementary with innovation and enthusiasm! We can't wait to see what they achieve next.
