Randolph Student Summit "Breaking Barriers in Construction "
In a pivotal event at Randolph High School on April 30, 2024, students were confronted with the stark realities of the construction industry. Divided by gender, they engaged in raw discussions with industry representatives about the challenges faced by minorities in construction. The conversations didn't sugarcoat the pervasive issues of racism and discrimination; instead, they encouraged students to persevere and embrace their worth despite systemic hurdles.
Female students learned about the uphill battles women face in a male-dominated profession, from unequal pay to limited opportunities for advancement. Meanwhile, male students, particularly African Americans, were confronted with the harsh realities of racism within the industry. Despite these challenges, a message of resilience and empowerment resonated, urging students to defy stereotypes and believe in themselves.
The overarching goal was clear: to empower students to navigate and overcome adversity in pursuit of their career aspirations. Armed with newfound knowledge and a sense of self-worth, the students left the event with a renewed determination to break barriers and forge their own paths to success in the construction industry and beyond.
