Maybury Kindergarten Students Are Toy Experts

In a heartwarming display of creativity and learning, Ms. Hemingway's kindergarten class have taken their classroom lessons to a whole new level by designing and crafting their own toys using simple materials. The project, which started as a fun learning exercise, has now blossomed into an exciting show-and-tell event that has captured the attention of teachers, students, and parents alike.

The students, aged 5 to 6, were tasked with applying principles they’ve been learning in their EL Education curriculum: basic engineering concepts, art, and problem-solving skills. Using everyday items, the young creators were encouraged to think outside the box (literally) and bring their imaginative toy ideas to life. When the students returned from Thanksgiving break, students brought in their toys and presented them to the class. Ms. Hemingway then displayed them in the hallway to create a walking toy museum for all to see.

As for the students, it’s clear they’ve learned a valuable lesson that goes beyond simply making toys— they’ve discovered the joy of bringing their ideas to life using creativity, problem-solving skills, and literacy concepts.
