DSA Multi Media Students Strike Gold, Headed to Nationals

Detroit, MI – In a stunning display of talent and dedication, the Detroit School of Arts (DSA) Multi Media Skills USA team dominated the state championships, securing gold medals in both Digital Cinema and Audio Production. The remarkable achievement sends four talented students to the Skills USA National Championships in Atlanta this summer.

The Digital Cinema dream team of Zahara Abdo-Davis and Alana Jackson impressed the judges with their compelling short film, showcasing their exceptional skills in cinematography, editing, and storytelling under intense pressure. Their gold medal victory marks a significant milestone for the DSA program.

Equally triumphant were Dhamari Trice-Hanson and Kacino Sherman, who clinched the gold medal in Audio Production. Their mastery of sound design, mixing, and mastering created an immersive and impactful audio experience that stood out amongst the competition.

Adding to the accolades, DSA student Jamil Harper achieved a perfect score on his Skills USA knowledge test, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s principles and industry standards.

The success of the students reflects the dedication and expertise of their coaches, Mr. Willis and Ms. Slater, who have tirelessly guided and mentored the team. Their efforts were further supported by Mr. Chico and Ms. Morrison-Green, whose commitment to the program has been instrumental in its growth.

Speaking of growth, DSA’s Multi Media program was also recognized for its remarkable expansion, receiving an award for nearing a 70% increase in student participation. This significant growth highlights the increasing interest and talent within the school’s media arts curriculum.

“We are incredibly proud of the hard work and achievements of our students,” said Mr. Willis, visibly beaming. “To win gold in both Digital Cinema and Audio is a testament to their talent and the strength of our program.”

Ms. Slater echoed this sentiment, adding, “Zahara, Alana, Dhamari, and Kacino have shown exceptional dedication. We are excited to see them represent DSA and Michigan at the national level.”

The four gold medalists are now preparing for the Skills USA National Championships in Atlanta, where they will compete against the top students from across the country. Their success at the state level has ignited a sense of pride and anticipation within the DSA community.
