Lead guitar classes that will teach scholars how to play the guitar

Scholars will have the opportunity to learn about different foods and their nutritional value.

PBIS Rewards is a schoolwide management system that assists schools in their Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support program. The multi-device platform makes it easy to continuously recognize students for meeting behavior expectations from anywhere in the school, not just the classroom.

Matrix Human Services is Educating Children, Supporting Families and Rebuilding Neighborhoods in Detroit.

Operating multiple programs in more than 35 Detroit locations, Matrix provides services to more than 25,000 individuals and families annually and operates the largest  Head Start program in Detroit serving more than 1,900 children.

Over the past 40 years, BFDI has engaged the community to be active participants in creating the community environment that is supportive of the needs of parents and children.

The establishment of block clubs in the Osborn, Denby and Cody Rouge communities have improved social cohesion. The social cohesion has yielded the critical "working together" that helps the community solve problems and build a stronger healthier community.

Residents of the Osborn, Denby and Cody Rouge communities are assuming more responsibility for their future and assuming more responsibility for outcomes in their community.

Scholars meet after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays to receive extra help in Math. This is facilitated by our Assistant Principal and elementary Math Teacher. They are assisted by staff members. All participants volunteer to uplift and ensure that our scholars get any extra help that is needed in Math.

DCC choral programs are also offered during the school day to several schools in the City of Detroit. We help create an “official school choir” in buildings where there may be no arts or music education activities. . As with our Civic Choir Programs, we provide a Kodály-inspired choral music education curriculum, developing basic music literacy through fun and engaging activities, sight-singing, healthy vocal technique training, pitch accuracy and part singing skills. Repertoire is varied and multicultural, including genres of classical, folk, world, spirituals, gospel and jazz. Rehearsals are held weekly at 1:00 pm for one hour on Thursdays.

Scholars chosen to patrol and help keep everyone safe on campus at entrance and dismissal times.
