Friday Footnotes 05.02.25

Good Evening MLK Family,

I wanted to take some time to address the allegations presented in the WXYZ report and the findings in the District's Inspector General's report. The report raised some important concerns about financial systems and processes at MLK.  I fully acknowledge that we can, will, and must do better in ensuring strong checks and balances are in place.  With that said I remain confident that the ongoing investigation will show that I did not engage in any theft of funds.  I and every staff member involved in this investigation is committed in cooperating fully and in  making any necessary improvements to restore trust and accountability.

On Sunday during our regular notes, we will discuss restoring cultural, academic and behavioral norms at MLK on for the rest of the school year. It was lifted by our Dean of Students, that today some students involved themselves in a social media fad called "Fade Friday".  During Fade Friday students schedule fights with random persons or persons who they may have had issues with currently or in the past. This is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.  Students involved in fighting, skipping class, being grossly insubordinate will be suspended. The safety of our students, faculty and staff is our chief priority. MLK will remain, a place of learning, and TOGETHER we will get better, and stronger!

Have a great weekend,

Principal Perry
