MLK Sunday Notes Week of April 7
Posted by Principal Perry on 4/6/2025
Greetings MLK Family!
I hope that each of you are enjoying this chilly Sunday afternoon and enjoyed some bracket busting basketball and here are your Sunday Notes:
Spring Testing Is Right Around the Corner- The SAT/PSAT are standardized tests used by many colleges and universities in the United States. Preparing for the SAT sharpens your skills needed to be successful in college and skills that are needed for careers. The test itself is a valuable tool to improve your chances at getting into your desired college, understanding careers that need skills like yours, and securing your financial future.
The SAT/PSAT can serve as a unique opportunity to showcase who you are and what you excel at. It helps you stand out among applicants with similar GPAs and extracurricular activities. Many colleges are test optional, and you should make the decision that will help most you during the college application process. Knowing what skills you excel at can also help you find a career that is a good fit or improve your skills for a career you have in mind.
A bulk of scholarships─money that you don’t have to pay back─comes from colleges, like the Detroit Promise. Your SAT scores can support you financially in college and may qualify you for certain institutional scholarships at colleges and universities. Other organizations and private companies that award scholarships may also require your test scores as part of their application. Please take a look at the MLK Testing schedule and assist us in getting your student prepared for a BRIGHT future!
MLK Senior Breakfast- The MLK Senior Committee is proud to present the Class of 2025 Senior Breakfast to be held on Friday April 25th at 9:00am. Tickets for this affair is $35.00 and will include a DJ, an upscale full breakfast menu, fun, fellowship and transportation. MLK Rev' Up to Prep Up!- The SAT/PSAT testing season is right around the corner! In order to ensure our students are prepared, and pumped about SAT. We are hosting this competition! Any student who logs into Clever, Selects Khan Academy, Selects Digital SAT as the course, and completes 20 hours by April 15th will win a day at Rev' Up for a day of go karts, zip lining, video games, and arcade games! See Ms. Russell, Mr. Johnston, AP Lewis, or Principal Perry for more information! Let's REV UP MLK Family!
School Uniforms and After School Pick Up- As the weather gets warmer more and more students are not reporting to school in uniform. Please remember the MLK uniform is black and white. Students should not be reporting to school wearing grey pants, and halter tops. All students are asked to arrive to school in full uniform, students who are not maintaining this expectation will be asked to contact parents who can bring an appropriate change of clothes. All students who are participating in after school activities are asked to be in place by 3:45pm sharp. Students not in their designated areas will be asked to wait outside for their rides. Let's honor these MLK expectations.
MLK Shout Outs-
The King Robotics team represented us well at the Michigan State Championship this past weekend. They played their hearts out, and came home with the Rising All Star Award for the Hemlock Field. This is the best finish ever for the King Robotics Team finishing in the top 100 teams in the state (which is the toughest region in the world).
