DPSCD Announces Summer Program Partners, Summer Camp-Style Activities
June 22, 2021 — DETROIT — Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) today announced details on its Summer Learning Experiences, which will offer fun and engaging summer activities to keep children learning, including entrepreneurship, computer programming, leadership, flag football, yoga and more. Local partners include Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, Sound Mind Sound Body Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, Going Pro, Piper, The Yunion, PBR Royal and DPR, among others.
The Summer Learning Experiences initiative is separated into three categories: enrichment programs, athletic programs, and neighborhood-based programs, in addition to academic support provided by the District during traditional summer school.
Enrichment activities will include entrepreneurship, life skills, tutoring in literacy and math, computer programming and literacy, art, music, performing arts, cooking, character, career, and leadership development, college readiness skill development, cheerleading, dance, basketball, flag football, speed training and yoga. Neighborhood programs, led by Boys and Girls Club and Going Pro, LLC, will include STEAM programs, health and fitness, basketball camp, Smart Girls and Passport to Manhood programs, among others. Enrichment Program Partners
- Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan—programming for girls focused on the leadership pillars of Entrepreneurship, Life Skills, STEM, and Outdoor Education
- Piper—student computer kits and training for District staff to teach students coding. Students will learn electronics, circuity, computational thinking, and coding
- The Yunion—arts-based program that encourages, educates, and empowers youth through music, poetry, theater, and dance
- DPR—International Cooking, Cool Chemistry, Engineering, Lego Robotics and Team Sports
- PBA Royal, LLC—cheerleading, basketball, and summer camp activities
- Sound Mind Sound Body Foundation—college readiness preparation, financial literacy, character development, networking, admissions process and more. Participants will engage in speed training, yoga, and a variety of other sports-related activities
- DPR—athletic team sports activities for youth, including flag football

The District will contract with 29 partners—including five local community organizations—to provide enrichment programming and 18 partners to provide neighborhood programming at a community location.
