Honoring Black Detroiters
During Black History Month, I am honoring black Detroiters who are making a difference!
Honoring and saluting Mrs. Murleen Coakley — the PROUD Principal of GreenfieldUnion! She is one of DPS/DPSCD’s finest..and happens to be one of my favorites!
A DPS Grad, of Cass Technical High School “Grand River School”
. She earned her bachelor's, master's and Ed Specialist degrees from Wayne State University. She also has Administration certifications from Central Michigan University.

She has taught in this district for over 20 years. She moved into school leadership as an Assistant Principal, where she has served for 5 years and now, since 2017, has served the community in the role of Principal. Her leadership speaks for itself, and so many travels because of her style, her passion, and work.
Principal Coakley believes that a school’s foundation is built on strong school culture and climate, which is built on positive relationships and community. Mrs. Coakley believes that all students should be given a voice and allowed free expression to grow into future leaders in our society. She is committed to enhancing outcomes for all students and their families.
Today, we salute you for your work and contributions to students everywhere. Your advocacy, your passion, and love don’t go unnoticed. Our lives, our communities and this world is certainly better because of what you were willing to offer!
