Check Out Five Things You Need to Know This Week!

DPSCD Families: The District is engaging our students in our Five Things You Need to Know messaging by providing a weekly video version to supplement our weekly copy. This week, Treasure Wallace, a senior at the Detroit School of Arts, is our student reporter. Pfizer Vaccine Available for Children 5 – 11: After CDC approval of the vaccine for children ages 5-11 on November 2, the District announced continued partnership with the Detroit Health Department to offer the vaccine directly to our students with a parent/guardian present at school locations.  We will start with the major Districtwide clinics listed below but will also have additional clinics across the District at specific schools over the next several weeks.  Visit the District’s website or call the Detroit Health Department at 313-230-0505 to make an appointment.  More information is available at detroitmi.gov/health including frequently asked questions.

Report Cards Distributed on November 15 via PowerSchool Parent Portal: Parents and families, report cards will be distributed on November 15 through the PowerSchool Parent Portal, a platform that gives you improved access to electronic resources such as reports cards, your student’s schedule, and daily attendance. If you need assistance, please reach out to your school.  

November is Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month: Led by theDPSCD’s Office of Equity, Advocacy &Civil Rights (EACR), the District celebrates Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month by presenting local and national events to our community. All month the National Museum of the American Indian is presenting Virtual Field Trips led by a museum educator that focuses on specific topics in Indigenous histories, cultures, and contemporary lives.  Be Part of a Parent Academy Workshop This Week!  Are you interested in transferring into one of the District’s six Examination High Schools in January? You can get details on the process by attending the Examination High School Transfer Application Webinar on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 6 p.m-7:30 p.m.,presented by the Office of Enrollment.  Click link to register for this and other Parent Academy classes. Board of Education Meeting is Tuesday, November 9 The next In-Person Regular Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 9, from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. at Renaissance High School, 6565 W. Outer Dr. Detroit, 48235. Information on how to register for virtual public comment can be found by visiting the home page of the District website at www.detroitk12.org.        

Fall Examination High School 9th Grade Application Window is Open! If your current 8th grade student is ready to Rise Up with DPSCD, the Round 1 window is now open to apply to one of the District’s six Examination High Schools. Please note, the Round 1 deadline for 9th grade application is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 21, 2021. For current high school students, the Round 1 deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 28. To learn more, please visit www.detroitk12.org/examschools.     ​​​​​​​
