Edmonson Chess Teams Shine on the National Stage
This year was one for the record books at Edmonson as our Chess Program leveled up in a big way! For the first time, Edmonson fielded two competitive chess teams—one at the elementary level and one at the middle school level. Both teams trained diligently throughout the school year, mastering strategies, sharpening their skills, and showing true commitment to the game.
That hard work paid off! After earning 2nd place within the District, both teams qualified for an exciting, all-expenses-paid trip to Orlando, Florida to compete in the 2025 US Chess Federation Supernationals VIII Tournament—the largest scholastic chess event in the country.
At Supernationals, Edmonson players took on thrilling challenges in two fast-paced chess formats: Blitz, a high-speed version of chess where each move counts and time is everything, and Bughouse, a dynamic two-player team game that brings strategy, teamwork, and quick thinking to the forefront.
But the excitement didn’t stop there! After seven intense rounds in the traditional chess tournament, Edmonson brought home two national winner trophies:
🏆 14th Place – K-8 U700 Team
Way to go Leo B., Paul S., Nickolas P., and Sidney M. for their powerful team effort and strategic play!
🏆 15th Place – K-3 U600 Team
Big shoutout to Senai B., Baron L., Titus P., Madison F., Simone T., and Elijah T. for their amazing teamwork and determination!
To top off this incredible journey, the Edmonson Chess Teams will be honored at the annual DPSCD STEM Awards, where their accomplishments will be recognized and celebrated districtwide.
Checkmate never looked so good. Go Edmonson Lions! 🦁♟️
