DPSCD Family Holiday Resources & Supports

A DPSCD core value is providing service to our students and families throughout the academic and calendar year. While the District is on holiday break from December 18, 2021, to January 2, 2022, students and families can use this guide for access to information on COVID-19 vaccination clinics, academic enrichment exercises, access to mental health resources and much more. We can’t wait to see you back next year on January 3, 2022. Be Safe and Enjoy!

COVID-19 Vaccinations for the Community

UPDATED 12-20-21: 

During the District’s Holiday Break (December 18, 2021-January 2, 2022), in partnership with the Detroit Health Department (DHD), families can continue to Get the Vax.

We encourage employees and families to utilize the City of Detroit vaccine clinics offered at multiple locations across the city.  Please note that pediatric vaccines are only offered by appointment at the two following locations:

Detroit Health Department Immunization Clinic located at 100 Mack Avenue, Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the Northwest Activities Center at 18100 Meyers Road, Monday through Friday --9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays -- 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For ages 12 and up, walk-ins are welcome.   To schedule a pediatric appointment (5-11 years) or to find another location within Detroit, call 313-230-0505.     

The District is working with partner organizations to offer additional vaccine clinics at school sites in January.  All information will be posted on our COVID page ( 

DPSCD Employee COVID-19 Testing

UPDATED 12-20-21: 

Please note, the Renaissance High School drive through will not operate during the week of December 20-27. While the District is NOT requiring a negative test to return to work on January 3, 2022, as a convenience to employees, the Renaissance drive through will operate on December 28, 29 and 30 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. If demand is high, then we will open another testing location. 

In order to control wait times and traffic flow at the site, an appointment is required during these days of testing.  When you make your appointment at you will automatically see the location/s and times available so that you can make the selection that works best for you.  

Weekly testing resumes at school and work locations the week of January 3, 2022. If you require COVID testing on days that the DPSCD/LynxDx drive through is not open, then please utilize the alternative clinics available through our partner Wayne Health or the State of Michigan/MDHHS.

Please continue to monitor employee compliance, encourage students to submit consents and work to make sure that all students who have submitted consents are provided the opportunity to test weekly. Questions? Contact

Academic Enrichment Activities for Holiday Break

Through the District’s Office of Strategy and Academics, you can keep your child engaged during the Holiday Break through an array of resources from maintaining momentum with literacy and math instruction to games designed to enhance learning. Please see the chart below with links to a variety of activities for students of all ages: 







myON® gives students access to more than 6,000 enhanced digital books. myON helps match student’s interests, grade, and Lexile® reading level. It also gives students reading tools and supports to improve engagement and achievement. 



Storyline Online 

Watch videos books being read aloud by famous actors and actresses. Listening to read-alouds can improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude, and inspire a lifelong love of reading.  



PBS Kids Science 

Students can play games to learn about science from their favorite PBS Kids characters. Build a station for the Dino Train, explore sounds with the Cat in the Hat, and more! 



Farmer’s Almanac for Kids 

The Almanac for Kids features a treasure trove of fun facts, awesome activities, and stellar stories that will keep kids of all ages entertained every day of the year! 




Keep up momentum with literacy and math instruction designed just for your student.  Completing 45 minutes of iReady each week is ideal! 

Clever Application

Kahn Academy 

At Khan Academy, students can independently practice math, science, computing, history, art history, economics, and more. They can even prep for tests like the SAT and AP. 



Farmer’s Almanac 

The Old Farmer’s Almanac is more than just planting charts. It is updated each day with recipes, forecasts, astronomical data, and historical trivia. 


5 - 12 


The StarTalk® podcast covers a wide range of science topics from sports to space. Listen to guests like scientists Neill deGrasse Tyson, comedians, and tech industry leaders explore the world of science in people’s lives. 


6 - 12 


In iCivics, students play innovative games that help them understand how our political systems work by allowing them to experience it first-hand and empowering them to address real-world issues. Many games are even available as phone or tablet apps. 


Along with these activities, the Holiday Break Academic Winter Enrichment Packets, with a focus on English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, are available to keep your student engaged academically while on break.  In addition to ELA and mathematics in the packets, you’ll find information on fun activities such as the All Because You Matter Reading Challenge  with a chance to win a book as well as myON reading challengewhere three students will win prizes for the highest number of minutes read between December 20, 2021, and January 2, 2022. Available Food Resources for Families

In conjunction with Gleaners pantry distribution system and Forgotten Harvest’s Find Food resource, families can get food support during the holidays. Options include Gleaners pantry distribution system as well as Forgotten Harvest’s Find Food resource. The District will resume its Grab and Go meal schedule for virtual school students on Thursday, January 6, 2022. Please visit for more information.
