Fire Safety & C.P.R. Presentation

Detroit Lions Academy students were able to learn life saving information today during the Detroit Fire Department's fire safety and C.P.R. presentation. All students were able to participate in the fire safety portion of the presentation. Lieutenant James Harris shared tragic stories about injuries and death caused by fire. In order to prevent future tragedies, he taught students valuable safety tips. Lt. Harris asked students to encourage Teri parents to purchase a carbon monoxide detector for their homes as well. The carbon monoxide detector will alert them if carbon monoxide levels are above safe levels. Carbon monoxide poisoning can be fatal. Eighth grade students were also able to participate in a hands on C.P.R. demonstration.

It is important that we know what to do in case of an emergency. Panicking and being unaware could cost you or someone else their life. This demonstration provided students with skills to avoid and escape danger. It is our goal to educate and protect each student in our school. Detroit Lions Academy would like to thank the Detroit Fire Department fort their commitment to keeping our students safe.

Don't forget these helpful fire safety tips...

Tip #1: Make sure you have working smoke detectors throughout your home (check the batteries twice a year).

Tip #2: Make sure your family has a fire escape plan. This way all of the family members know how to exit the home during a fire and where to meet up once they are outside.

Tip #3: During a fire you should never run and hid, but run outside.

Tip #4: Once you are safely out of the house, never go back inside.

Tip #5: Elderly or disabled people should sleep on the main floor. This makes it easier to get them safely out of the house in case of emergency.

Tip #6: Infants and small children should not sleep in a room alone. It is safer if they slept in a room with an adult or older sibling.

Tip #7: Keep flammable items away from children.

Tip #8: If you have security bars on first floor windows, please make sure that at least one window is free of security bars. If possible remove all second story window security bars.
