Honors Program & Black History Celebration

Thursday, March 5, 2020 was a wonderful day at D.L.A.! After weeks of practice and preparation, Detroit Lions Academy hosted a honors ceremony to highlight student achievement and celebrate black history. Guests were welcomed by Ms. Davis-Patterson (Dean of Culture) and Ms. Givens (ELA Master Teacher). Kyle Kenerly gave us a taste of his lyrical skills with an original Black History rap. Mr. Daniel (counselor), presented honorees with their certificates. Arianna Cantie, Diamond Cogburn, Dante Hampton, Jamil Harper, Sir Thomas Hill, Angel Milton, Mario Riley and Jaubari Sutgrey received honor roll certificates for maintaining at least a 2.6 grade point average during semester 1. Latesha Browning, Mykel Davis, Antonio Fleming, Sergio Fleming, Brian Fletcher, Dyamond Jones, Jontae Singleton, and Janise Wade received Principal's Circle l Certificates for maintaining at least a 3.0 grade point average during semester 1. Following an audio recording of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech, Brooklyn Parker, Destinne Taylor, Destiny Goodman, Termiya Manley, and Ke'Airah Brown performed a beautifully choreographed dance. The ceremony was concluded with remarks form Principal Alean King, thanking everyone for coming and encouraging parents to continue to support their children. Students were able to show off their black history projects and art work that was on display. Attendees convened in the Den to take pictures and enjoy light refreshments. Principal's Circle students gathered together to eat a special lunch provided by Principal King.
