DPSCD Teacher and Leader of the Year Awards Gala Nominees

Southeastern High School teacher Tavia Davis has always presented high-quality lessons, ensuring her students are fully engaged. Several school leaders have personally witnessed Ms. Davis’ teaching style and were impressed with how well her students responded to her teaching technique and collaborated with each other. The Southeastern leaders also noted how well Ms. Davis’ students diligently carried out their assignments after receiving their directions.

Ms. Davis’ lessons are consistently on pace with the DPSCD’s rigorous curriculum. This year she volunteered to stretch herself by teaching Advancement Placement (AP) English for the first time. She also agreed to teach a sixth class to provide English Language Arts (ELA) instruction to support a colleague who was on leave. Additionally, Ms. Davis works on Southeastern’s assessment team and the staff social committee. Always dedicated to her students in and out of the classroom, Ms. Davis frequently attends her students’ activities, be it performances or athletic games. She was nominated for this year’s DPSCD Teacher of the Year and made it as a top five finalist. Congratulations and good luck!

DPSCD, in conjunction with the DPS Foundation, will honor our educators, teachers and leaders at the 9th annual Champions of Education awards gala and dinner, on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at DPSCD’s Mumford High School.  This is the first in a series of profile stories about the Teacher of the Year nominees.
