3rd Graders Explore Climate and Weather
How Do We Define Weather and Climate?
Our 3rd graders investigated this question during a recent Cultulral Passport field trip to Cranbrook Institute of Science. Students worked together to analyze graphs and images related to various climates such as the arctic, deserts, grasslands and rainforests. Students participated in visual representations using a flashlight to simulate the sun during Earth's rotation and observing a heat transfer process. They incorporated their own knowledge of weather to design proper attire for various temperatures and presented their designs with justifications. Cranbrook instructors worked with students in small groups to study different types of weather as well as the connection between weather and climate. Students worked in pairs to interpret temperature and precipitation data and how they impact weather related challenges. Students gained valuable information from this engaging and informative trip.
