Laced with Confidence!
Burns Elementary-Middle Students “Laced with Confidence” at Special Detroit Pistons Event
Twenty students from Burns Elementary-Middle School spent an unforgettable day at the Detroit Pistons Training Center for the Laced with Confidence event, a special community initiative designed to help students step into the school year with pride, comfort, and style.
Hosted by multiple community partners and Councilwoman Mary Waters, the event provided each student with a brand-new pair of shoes, two pairs of shoelaces, and essential school supplies. But beyond the gifts, Laced with Confidence focused on something even more important: helping students learn to “walk with confidence” in school and in life.
Students gathered in the Pistons’ conference and lunch area, where they enjoyed a meal together while the Detroit Pistons Team B practiced below on the court. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as students got to see professional athletes train up close.
One of the biggest highlights of the day came when Hooper, the Pistons’ beloved team mascot, made a surprise appearance. Laughter and cheers filled the room as Hooper danced, posed for photos, and encouraged students to always stay positive and confident.
Councilwoman Waters shared words of encouragement, reminding the students that confidence begins with believing in themselves whether they’re in the classroom, on the court, or out in the community.
The Laced with Confidence event not only provided new shoes but also inspired new steps toward success. As the students left the training center, shoes tied, smiles wide, they carried with them more than just supplies. They carried a renewed sense of pride and confidence, ready to make the most of their school.
