Brenda Scott Eagles Soar on ELA I-Ready!

Brenda Scott Academy Honored for Outstanding Growth in English Language Arts

Brenda Scott Academy has been recognized as one of the Top 5 schools in the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) for English Language Arts (ELA) growth during the 2024–2025 school year.

The distinction was awarded based on student progress measured through the i-Ready assessment, a benchmark tool that tracks academic growth and achievement. Brenda Scott Academy’s students demonstrated remarkable improvement in reading and language skills, placing the school among the highest-performing in the district for year-over-year growth.

At the most recent DPSCD School Board meeting, Principal Lawanda Smith proudly accepted the award on behalf of the entire Brenda Scott Academy community.

“This recognition reflects the hard work of our students, teachers, and families,” said Principal Smith. “At Brenda Scott, we believe every child can grow and achieve at high levels, and this award is proof of the dedication and perseverance shown each day in our classrooms.”

The award highlights Brenda Scott Academy’s commitment to academic excellence and student success. Teachers have implemented focused instructional strategies and provided targeted supports to help students strengthen their literacy skills, while students have embraced the challenge with determination.

As the school celebrates this accomplishment, the Brenda Scott Academy community looks forward to continuing its mission of fostering strong readers, writers, and lifelong learners.
