DPSCD Gets Boost for our Automotive Services Program

Providing opportunities for our students to achieve by being college and career ready is a DPSCD priority.

At the District’s Breithaupt Career Technical Center, 9300 Hubbell in Detroit, the automotive services curriculum received added support when DTE Energy generously donated nine used fleet vehicles to DPSCD on Friday, June 4, 2021. The fleet vehicles, which include internal combustion (gas) engines as well as those powered with electricity and hybrid power, will ensure that students have the resources, skills and support needed to gain meaningful, good paying jobs in the auto services field.

“I enjoy this program, not everyone gets to have this, it is free and we have some really good teachers,” said Osvaldo Covarrubias, a sophomore who attends DPSCD’s Western International Academy and does his auto services school work  at Breithaupt. “Overall, the program is a good one to have, you can learn new things and possibly get a job in the future.”

Breithaupt’s automotive services curriculum is led by veteran DPSCD educator Ronald Todd, under the guidance of the school’s principal Felicia Moore. It is one of many Career Technical Education or CTE programs at Breithaupt which also includes welding, culinary arts, cosmetology and much more. Students in all DPSCD high schools have access to the programs at Breithaupt.

Is your high school aged child interested in a CTE career pathway? Then we have opportunities for you! To learn more about the Breithaupt Career Technical Center and its programming, please visit the school’s website at We are saving a seat for you this fall!
