Cass Tech High - Alumnus & DCP @Northwestern - Assistant Principal
Who was your favorite educator as a DPS/DPSCD student and why?
- My middle and elementary school experiences had the greatest impact on my perception of education. To this end, Mr. Cleveland, my 8th Grade math teacher had the greatest impact on me academically. I became a Math teacher specifically because of Mr. Cleveland. With his attention to detail and his concern for the whole child, he was the leader of the ski team, which made me appreciate what he brought to the table.
What has been your favorite experience as a DPSCD employee?
- As a DPSCD employee, I was provided with some of the best researched-based professional development available. My pedagogical ideology was cultivated and nurtured while working within DPSCD. Considering I've worked for several districts and charter schools in the surrounding area, I have relevant data points to make a valid ascertain that DPSCD produces some of the most educated, well-equipped teachers in Southeast Michigan.
Why should someone join the DPSCD team?
- An aspiring Educator should join DPSCD if their goal is to become the best of the best. The perception of an "excellent" educator is one thing, but the ability to nurture meaningful relationships with students to compel them to aspire to be excellent can only be birth out of the experiences provided by DPSCD.

What has been your favorite experience as a DPSCD employee?

What motivates you to work in the Exceptional Students Exceptional field?
- I find myself motivated to work in the ESE department to increase the knowledge gap in supporting students with exceptionalities. Building parental partnerships and effectively supporting the needs for students with social-emotional, mental, behavioral and physical challenges is critical. Moreover, ensuring the meaningful provision of high-leverage practices and appropriate services to increase access, development and progress remains my overarching motivation and overriding priority. In ESE, students always come first!
