Next Monday, January 17, 2022, is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a federal holiday dedicated to remembering Dr. King’s advocacy and leadership for racial equality and service.
While Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) schools and offices will be closed in remembrance of Dr. King, the District would like to remind our students and families that equity is an asset that makes us stronger.
DPSCD invites students, parents, families, and the community to participate in Martin Luther King Jr., Senior High School’s 13th Annual MLK Legacy March Celebration and virtual panel to be held on Monday, January 17, 2022.
To ensure the safety of the community due to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases, the in-person march has been postponed until 2023. However, the annual event will commence with a social media campaign using the hashtag, #EQUITYAMPED.
This year’s theme will coincide with the MLK Foundation National theme, “Amplifying Voices for Racial Solidarity and Equity" in alignment with the District’s Core Value of Equity, consisting of advocating for the needs of others while ensuring that all members of our community have access to the tools and resources, they need to be successful.
DPSCD students and families should post acts of equity using the hashtag on their social media accounts and are being asked to tag @DetroitKingHighSchool on Instagram.
The highlight of this annual celebration will be the Equity Panel which was developed in tandem with the theme of empowering all members of our community through equity in the following topics and areas:
Join DPSCD and Martin Luther King Jr., Senior High School in the virtual panel on Monday, January 17th from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Microsoft Teams. Rise Up with DPSCD!
