Important Announcement from Dr. Vitti of Online Learning Starting Thursday, January 6th--January 14th (1/4/22)
Please be advised that the District will shift to online teaching and learning Thursday, January 6th—January 14th. Although we are still waiting for some employees to test by tomorrow (the requirement is still in effect), the city’s seven day infection rate has now exceeded 40% and continues to climb. We are committed to returning to in person learning as soon as city infection rates decrease to safer levels. Any return to in person learning with infection rates this high, coupled with current low student and family vaccination rates, will lead to extreme levels of positive cases and quarantining that leads to staff shortages and student absenteeism.
For eligible students, laptops will be distributed at each school this week on Thursday (12 p.m.-4 p.m.) and Friday (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) and the following week on Monday and Tuesday (both days 9 a.m.-4 p.m.). The regular school bell schedule will be followed per state requirements for each day on online learning. School based staff may use their classrooms and offices for online teaching and work as long as they have received a negative test through the district. All school based administrators will assist with laptop distribution. In addition, starting this Thursday, all clerical staff, contracted and district/school nurses, security guards, greeters, all food and nutrition staff, parent outreach coordinators, bus attendants, contracted engineers and custodians, and ESE paraeducators (job codes 6190, 6192, and 619R) are to report in person at their regular school buildings for in person work. All other employees may work remotely with a log documenting their assistance with online learning.
All Central Office clerical staff should report for in person work effective Thursday, January 6th. All other Central Office employees will have the opportunity to work remotely or in the office after receiving their negative test. One Central Office administrator will be present for in person work at each office and department.
As a reminder, all district employees and contractors must test through one of the district’s 10 COVID testing sites today or tomorrow if they did not do so voluntarily last week. If an employee tested positive outside of the district then they must submit their positive test to their supervisor to avoid the district testing requirement.
