- DPSCD School Spotlight: Edison Elementary School, a place for students to thrive! Serving grades Pre-K through 5 Edison goes beyond academics. - GSRP PreK Application is open for Fall 2024! Do you or anyone you know have a student who will be 4 years old by December 1, 2024? Families can now apply for a GSRP PreK seat for the 2024-25 school year. Please visit detroitk12.org/prek and fill out the interest form for the 2024-25 school year to start the application process. Seats are limited and will go fast! Start the process today.
- Parent Academy Workshop- Least Restrictive Environment (LRE): Considerations and Supports: The Office of Exceptional Student Education is hosting a course this week, Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) is the foundation of special education. What do these terms really mean? How do we ensure that we are providing FAPE in the LRE? Families will learn these terms to appropriately support students with exceptionalities. - Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment: DPSCD Families, this fall, Kindergarten students must have an oral health screening on file before entering school. Families will have four options on how to get the assessment form filled out.

- See the dental provider assigned to your school.
- Attend an event where My Community Dental Centers (MCDC) is doing assessments.
- MCDC will be assigned a date in DPSCD schools to complete the evaluation. For more information, read the Michigan’s Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment Program and download the assessment form. Book your an student appointment today!
- Join ESE at the 41st African World Festival: The Office of Exceptional Student Education (ESE) will be participating in the African World Festival hosted by the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. This three-day event will take place from July 12- July 14 at Hart Plaza. Families come to experience international performers, food, art and receive information about ESE resources available to you. For more information email Quentin May at quentin.may@detroitk12.org
