Detroit Board of Education Spotlight: Board Member Corletta Vaughn
Each month, the District will feature an article on a Detroit Board of Education member, to learn more about what drives them to help students rise.
Detroit Public Schools Community District newest elected Board Member Corletta J. Vaughn considers herself a “Technician!” Bishop Vaughn graduated from Cass Technical High School, class of 1971, and credits her success to the love and support of her parents who she said helped to develop her strengths as well as build her relationship with God. Growing up she loved classical and gospel music and carried that passion to Cass Tech. She began to play jazz in high school, and now she plays 10 instruments, sings and preaches at Church where she serves as a senior pastor.
Vaughn said education is a serious priority in the world we live in today. The highest honor for Bishop Vaughn was her being elected and being sworn in to serve as a DPSCD school board member in January.
