DPSCD Supports Your Halloween Fun!
DPSCD has your back when it comes to Halloween safety tips and opportunities as you get ready for Halloween on Sunday, October 31, 2021!
Safety Tips for You and Your Family from DPSCD Public Safety
Starting with your child’s costume, particularly as it relates to tweens and teens, be sure it fits your vision of what is appropriate for family centered Halloween activities. In addition, have your trick or treater wear good fitting shoes, so they can comfortably walk the neighborhood in search of candy and sweets. All Halloween costumes should be short enough to avoid tripping and while an unlikely scenario, encountering something combustible.
Even though Halloween is an outdoor activity, practice virus defense by wearing masks. You can even get creative and have your child’s mask tie into their costume. Once your outside trick or treating, DPSCD Public Safety recommends these other safety tips:
- Have your child walk on the sidewalk whenever possible. If you are near a roadway, walk on the far edge and face traffic. Also, carrying a flashlight and wearing reflective clothing will help you be visible to others.
- Avoid large groups or clustering on doorsteps and porches.
- If your child is old enough to trick or treat unsupervised, remind them to carry their cell phone and before they leave, check the battery strength.
