20-21 School Program and Location Changes
DPSCD is undergoing an unprecedented amount of change while keeping our core value, Students First, at the forefront of each decision. After several community meetings, school meetings, and discussions with DPSCD leadership, the Detroit Board of Education approved the following school and program location changes that will go into effect at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.

Adult Ed East
Beginning in fall 2020, Adult Education will be shifting to a community-based program by partnering with the City of Detroit's Detroit at Work locations. Specific community locations will be announced soon.
Clippert
Beginning in the Fall of 2020, Clippert will function as a middle school serving grades 6-8 and will continue as an application school.
Communication Media Arts High School
CMA will relocate to the current site of Ludington Magnet Middle and Honors School, 19501 Berg Rd, in the 2020-2021 school year and convert into an Examination School in Fall 2021. CMA's relocation will give its high school students expanded access to athletic fields, school amenities, and classroom space.
Charles Wright Academy
This fall, Charles Wright Academy of Arts and Science will transition to become a new Application school. The school will serve students in grades K-6 and will grow out to a K-8 over the coming years. Emerson Elementary-Middle School will absorb the former Charles Wright Neighborhood Boundary.
Davis Aerospace High School
Students enrolled at Davis Aerospace will be splitting class time between the City Airport and Golightly CTC.
Detroit Int’l Academy for Young Women
Detroit International Academy for Young Women will move to the former GEE White Academy site, 5161 Charles Street, in January 2021 to accommodate the majority of DIA families with a single-gender school in their neighborhood.
Emerson Elementary – Middle School
Emerson’s neighborhood boundary will expand to include part of the former Charles Wright boundary and Ludington’s. Emerson Elementary-Middle School, offering grades Pre-K to 8, emphasizes technology and science throughout the curriculum, including state-of-the-art technology in every classroom, robotics, PreK-8th stem program, and outdoor classroom experiences.
Edmonson Montessori Elementary
Edmonson Montessori Elementary School serves Pre-Kindergarten through fourth grade and will begin adding a grade level each subsequent year through sixth grade.
Fredrick Douglass Academy for Young Men
Fredrick Douglass will transition from Grades 6-12 to Grades 9-12 in the 2020-2021 school year.
Golightly Career and Technical Center
Reconfigure career technical education programming at Golightly CTC in the 2020-2021 school year.
Henry Ford High School
Beginning fall 2020, Henry Ford High School’s school boundary will expand its reach to students and families in Detroit, while also welcoming Detroit’s first and only Early Middle College program for students, in partnership with Lawrence Tech.
Ludington
Ludington Magnet Middle and Honors School will not accept new enrollments for fall 2020, as it prepares to close after the 2021-22 school year. Communications and Media Arts High School will be moving to the Ludington site in the 2020-2021 school year and the two schools will share the site during the transition period.
MLK Jr. Senior High School
Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School will become a full examination high school that will retain a small neighborhood boundary in the 2020-2021 school year.
Pulaski Relocation
All current students and staff will relocate from the current Pulaski building to the current Adult Ed. East site beginning fall of 2020. The new school site is less than a mile and a half from Pulaski's current building and will offer students and staff an updated facility conducive to learning.
Schulze Academy
Beginning in the 2020-2021 school year, Schulze Academy for Technology and Arts will expand its grade configuration from K- 6 grade to K- 7 grade and eventually expand to K- 8 grade in the 2021-2022 school year.
Southeastern High School
Southeastern is an exam school that now has a neighborhood component for this Fall . Southeastern will also launch a new Advanced Manufacturing and IT CTE programs. This shift will introduce a unique educational experience for District students. Southeastern will offer students a high-quality career technical education while also giving students a traditional high school experience.
Vernor Elementary School
Beginning in the 2020-2021 school year, Vernor Elementary School will expand its grade configuration from PreK- 6 grade to PreK- 7 grade and eventually expand to PreK- 8 grade in the 2021-2022 school year.
