FLICS Robotics Team Recognized for Excellence at January Board Meeting
At the January Regular Board Meeting Superintendent Nikolai Vitti and the Detroit Board of Education recognized FLICS students for the core value of EXCELLENCE, which states – Be relentless in your pursuit of greatness. Be bold and innovate. Learn from your mistakes. Hold yourself and others to high standards.
In November, FLICS students put their Robot to the test and competed at the FIRST Robotics Technical Challenge Qualifying Competition, where they won 1st place out of more than 30 teams in Detroit! The students qualified to attend the State Championship for the first time and did very well placing 12th out of 72 teams!
Through this process the students’ coaches, FLICS Teacher Jean Quenum and Volunteer Coach Leon Pryor II were instrumental in helping the students establish goals, learn code, fix and decode bugs, as well as contribute things that often go unnoticed, like paying for new robot parts to ensure their students were able to compete with their best work. Thank you Dr. Quenum and Mr. Pryor for living the Core Value of Students First. #StudentsRise
