On April 17, Adult Education students got a look at life past the GED.
That day, representatives from multiple colleges and careers addressed the students at the Adult Education-West Campus. Representatives from Henry Ford College, Wayne County Community College District, Specs Howard School of Media and Broadcast Arts, and other schools. As far as trades and occupations, representatives from Mary Kay, Sodexho, and even the Detroit Fire Department, as well as other jobs and careers, made it a very interesting and informative day.
Speakers, staff, and students then got to enjoy a delicious soul food lunch from Waller-Williams Catering.
The career day was coordinated by Shirley Wingate, the guidance counselor at Adult Education-West Campus. Wingate's husband, State of Michigan corrections officer Brian Frierson, was also one of the presenters for the day.
The school would like to thank: Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation, Michigan Works!, the City of Detroit-Mayor's Office agency of Workforce Development, the DPSCD Office of Family and Community Engagement (F.A.C.E.), the DPS/DPSCD Alumni Association, and the Emerging Industries Training Institute.
