- Academy of the Americas HS
Congratulations Class of 2020!!! What a year, through it all, you made it.
The class of 2020 are our 21st century leaders who will have a story of triumph and victory. Our senior students have worked hard, overcame obstacles, and achieved the milestone of graduating high school! They did this while facing uncertainty while enduring the precipice of the COVID-19 pandemic. Academy of the Americas is committed to providing students and their families a meaningful farewell and congratulatory experience. We will kick-off by continuing to recognize our seniors, schools are celebrating the senior class of 2020 by delivering yard signs, hosting virtual graduation ceremonies, car parades and more.
Join us in the celebration by using social media, tag DPSCD (@detroitk12) using the following hashtags: #SeniorConnections, #DPSCDProud #StudentsRise.
Seniors are engaging in activities designed to connect current students from across the District to post-secondary opportunities and to provide a platform were students can virtually introduce themselves to other District students who will be pursuing the same post-secondary plans. These opportunities include attending community colleges, 4-year colleges and universities, the armed forces and the world of work. There are still connection opportunities available.
The following list includes graduation activities (adhering to social distancing guidelines) and the dates and times for each virtual graduation ceremony according to schools.
Please Join us on 06/22/20 at 9am: Virtual Graduation – We planned a personalized pre-recorded video presentation to be broadcasted during a designated ceremony time.
The virtual presentation will include, DPSCD leadership remarks, a special address from the valedictorian and salutatorian, message from a class representative, and Governor's message. Followed by a virtual walk across the stage, each students’ name will be called, and their senior picture displayed. Following graduation, the school will conduct a car parade around the school or the school’s neighborhood to recognize the graduates.
