DPSCD Families, students are gaining valuable experience by participating in Five Things You Need to Know weekly news video. Students deliver a weekly video version to supplement our weekly copy. Watch this week’s Five Things News video with Cedar Rock, a sophomore from Detroit School of Arts (DSA), who is our student reporter.
Mental Health Resources for Students and Families: Whether through our Are You OK? mental health initiative, the Mental Health Hotline or with other supportive partners, DPSCD has resources to help our students and families. Parent Academy Sessions This Week: Part of our Parent Academy offerings includes the monthly Exceptional Student Education (ESE) meetings led by Board Vice President Dr. Deborah Hunter-Harvill and Chief of Schools Nidia Ashby. Stay Smart with Summer Learning Experiences: Students and families, we’ll see you at upcoming Summer Learning Experiences 2022 Parent Information session to learn more about options for DPSCD students. Learn about the programs, credit recovery, academic acceleration, and enrichment at an upcoming virtual information session. Save the date of Monday, June 6, at 5:30 p.m. for our next session. A reminder, registration for Summer Learning Experiences 2022 (running from July 11-August 4) is now open; seats are limited.
Enrollment Open Houses This Week: Schools are open for tours and open houses to help you prepare for the start of the 2022-23 school year this fall. Among the schools with open houses this week are: Renaissance High School, Wednesday, May 18, 5 p.m., in-person, Martin Luther King High School, Thursday, May 19, 5 p.m., in-person and Communications and Media Arts High School (CMA), Thursday, May 19, 4:30 p.m. (in-person and virtual).
DPSCD All Classifications Hiring Fair Tuesday, May 17, 4 p.m.-7 p.m. Get ready to start a rewarding new position by building a career with DPSCD! Attend our next All Classifications Hiring Fair at Cass Technical High School. More information can be found at detroitk12.org/employment.

ESE Transition and Career Planning Expo Sat. June 4, 2022, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. @King High School: This event will provide information to parents and transition age students on community opportunities, programs, postsecondary education, and available services that will be beneficial to their life goals. In addition, it will include empowering workshops, community agency information & intake, community resources, and vendors alley. This event is open to all DPSCD students 14+ with an active IEP. See you on Saturday, June 4!
