Check Out Five Things You Need to Know This Week!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week DPSCD!! We love our teachers and appreciate the work they do to help our students to rise! As you know, we have teachers who support Five Things every week. Thank you Mrs. Leija for all that you do to help our students rise!  

DPSCD Families, students are gaining valuable experience by participating in Five Things You Need to Know weekly news video. Students deliver a weekly video version to supplement our weekly copy. Watch this week’s Five Things News video with Cedar Rock, a sophomore from Detroit School of Arts (DSA), who is our student reporter.            

Stay Smart with Summer Learning Experiences: Students and families, registration for Summer Learning Experiences 2022 is now open; seats are limited. Students are in store for fun and learning from July 11-August 4. Learn about the programs, credit recovery, academic acceleration, and enrichment at an upcoming virtual information session on Monday, May 16 or Monday, June 6 at 5:30 pm.  

Parent Academy Sessions This Week: Fun and informative Parent Academy sessions this week include Getting Ready to Level Up to High School on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, from 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and the Parent & DPSCD Public Safety Partnership Dinner on Wednesday, May 11, from 4 p.m.-6 p.m.  

Enrollment Open Houses This Week: Schools are open for tours and open houses to help you prepare for the fall. Among the schools with Open Houses this week are: Marquette Elementary-Middle School and Mackenzie Elementary-Middle School on Wednesday, May 11. Marquette’s will be at 3:30 p.m., Mackenzie at 4 p.m. Meanwhile, you can learn more about Ben Carson High School during its virtual open house, Wednesday, May 11 at 6 p.m. Finally, attend Cass Tech’s virtual open house on Thursday, May 12, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.    

Regular Board of Education meeting Tuesday, May 10: The May Board of Education meeting can be viewed in person and virtually, click the link above to watch virtually or join us at Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School (Auditorium), 3200 E. Lafayette in Detroit, 48207.  

Save the Date of June 9 for the 2022 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Awards: The STEM Awards will be in-person this year at King High School, starting at 5:30 p.m. The STEM Awards are designed to honor top STEM enrichment students, teachers, and principals in areas such as Academic Games, Chess, Debate, Robotics, Science Fair and more! Keep an eye on detroitk12.org for more information. #RISEUPwithDPSCD
