DPSCD Families students are gaining valuable experience by participating in Five Things You Need to Know weekly news. Students deliver a weekly video version to supplement our weekly copy. DPSCD Partnership Confronts Bullying: In support of a positive, safe, and nurturing culture for all our students, staff and families, the District is part of the Michigan School Safety Program, OK2Say. Through this ongoing initiative, DPSCD students and families can learn more about issues such as bullying and cyberbullying as well as preventing school violence. DPSCD School Closed in Recognition of Eid al-Fitr: District schools will be closed from Monday, May 2, Tuesday, May 3 and Wednesday, May 4, 2022, in recognition of the Muslim holiday, Eid al-Fitr. The holiday is celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the month-long dawn to sunset fasting of Ramadan. DPSCD schools and offices will reopen on Thursday, May 5.
DPSCD’s Summer Learning Experiences 2022: Students and families, save the date of Monday, May 9, 2022. That’s when you can begin to register for Summer Learning Experiences that runs from July 11-August 4. To help you prepare for Summer Learning Experiences 2022, attend an upcoming online town hall meeting on either Monday, May 16 or Monday, June 6. Monitor the DPSCD website for more information on Summer Learning Experiences and the town halls.
DPS/DPSCD Alumni Come Home Weekend May 19-May 22: The first ever Come Home Alumni Hall of Fame Gala weekend is approximately four weeks away! Share information on planned activities as well as get your tickets by visiting detroitk12.org/comehome.
Parent Academy This Week: Attend a free Parent Academy workshop and get information on DPSCD’s Montessori program (Tuesday, April 26, 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m.) as well as a session on college and scholarships. That workshop will also be on Tuesday, April 26, from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. More information on Parent Academy workshops can be found at detroitk12.org/parentacademy.

Math in the D Thursday, April 28 3:45 p.m.-4:45 p.m.: Students and families, Math in the D creates a community space to engage in mathematics in non-traditional ways. Attend a session near you on April 28 at the following locations: English Village Preparatory Academy (EEVPA), Detroit College Preparatory at Northwestern (DCP) and Mumford High School. Pizza will be provided and there will be prizes. Contact the school for more information.
