ESE continues to increase Parental Engagement with the current expansion of our Parent Advisory Committee. The goal is to empower parents with information and a structured body to support and provide consistent feedback to DPSCD Administrations. Teacher Spotlight: The Michigan Art Education Association (MAEA), founded in 1949, has provided an exemplary networking opportunity and collegial support for visual art educators throughout Michigan. In 1964 the MAEA initiated their Art Educator of the Year awards. This year’s winner was chosen due to his commitment to our students, excellence, and service in art education. Mr. Illya (ILL-YUH) Tolbert of Bates Academy was selected as the 2022 Michigan Art Education Association’s Art Educator of the Year.

New Student Board of Education Members: Two new student Board members participated in their first board meeting as representatives of the District’s student body. Please help us congratulate and welcome Lauren Hatten, a senior at Cass Technical High School and Amara Small, a junior at The School of Marygrove. In addition, Makyla Burise, a senior at Northwestern, will serve as the Alternate Student Representative.
