Barton's 1st Back to School Bike Ride/Walk

Detroit Police escorts courtesy of 2nd precinct at bike stroll

Thank you to everyone who participated in the most exciting and engaging event with Barton's Bike Stroll on Thursday, September 16th from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. The event was fun, entertaining, energetic, and most importantly, SAFE. We were escorted by Detroit's finest, the Detroit Police Department. Thank you to the 2nd precinct Detroit Police officers.

Officer Franklin has always supported Principal Adams with making a difference and putting smiles on kids' faces in this community. His partners' Officer Burdett, Officer Tyler, and Officer Havez have supported her for many years, even before she became Barton Elementary School's principal. Principal Adams thanks them from the bottom of her heart for keeping us safe and assisting when needed.

Another huge shoutout to Barton staff, students, families, and the community for making this event a success. 85% of Barton staff participated by riding their bikes with blue and yellow balloons or walking while holding the student-created banner. Every K-5 grade level was well represented as they took on the challenge of walking or riding their bikes with their families. Most importantly, a major thank you to the Barton community as they helped hold traffic as travelers waited patiently for the bike riders and walkers to make it back to Barton Elementary safely. The route began at Ohio Street to Chicago Road to Prairie Street to Joy Road and ended at Barton Elementary School where every participant received some light refreshments for completing the challenge. WHAT AN AMAZING EVENT IT WAS!
