The horns were honking! Tears were shed! The parents were enlivened! The students were ambivalent!
It was a beautiful day as we celebrated the 24KT 5th graders on the front lawn of Barton Elementary! The 24KT 5th graders will be missed! The students were enamored by Wayne County Commissioner Alisha Bell's every word as she shared her journey of once being a Barton Elementary student. A huge thank you to the District 7 Office of Wayne County Commissioner for the momentous certificates given to each student.
We were also appreciative of Mr. Tyrone Winfrey, DPSCD Executive Director of Community Affairs for bidding the 5th graders farewell on behalf of Superintendent Dr. Vitti.
Principal Adams presented the Top 5 5th graders with a scholarship award from Kenny Lowman and the Reach Back and Give organization. Thank you for always giving back to the students. The winners were Damien Covington (class valedictorian), Asj'a Mitchell, Alora Andrews, Mohamed Awaljeeh, and Anthony Vines.
Their class motto was "We are rising brightly into the future!" 5th graders will be missed. All in all, the Barton staff, the families, and the community pulled together to make this a memorable promotion for the 5th graders! Congratulations!
