Students learn how to camp
Mumford 8th graders have the exciting opportunity to learn how to camp at the Scout Hollow campgrounds, an experience that teaches them valuable outdoor and teamwork skills. During this hands-on learning adventure, students practice setting up tents, building campfires, and cooking simple meals outdoors. They also learn about safety, nature conservation, and the importance of respecting the environment. Guided by their teachers and trained instructors, students gain confidence in navigating the outdoors while developing leadership and problem-solving skills that extend beyond the classroom.
The camping experience at Scout Hollow is more than just an outdoor trip—it’s a chance for students to connect with nature and each other. Through team-building activities, hiking, and group discussions around the campfire, 8th graders learn the value of cooperation, communication, and resilience. Many students describe the trip as one of their favorite middle school memories, as it strengthens friendships and provides a refreshing break from technology and routine. By the end of the camp, Mumford students return with not only new skills but also a deeper appreciation for nature and community.
